Yesterday we hosted a very successful Macmillan Coffee Morning event at our school.
- The current Year 5 children at Newcastle C of E Primary School in the Clun Valley organised the afternoon event.
- They designed posters and distributed them around the village.
- The children set up the hall and served teas, coffees and cakes.
- The children also led the raffle and counted the money the next day.
- Leading the charity event gave the children a chance to earn their Bluehills Federation Silver Award - an award scheme for all the schools in the Bluehills Federation.
“It was great to see our Year 5 children take responsibility for the Macmillan Coffee Afternoon this year. This is the first time we have asked the children to lead this. It gives the older children in our small family school a chance to have ownership, make decisions and communicate directly with the community. They were brilliant and helped the school raise over £200 for the Macmillan Charity. I’d also like to thank the community members and staff who attended and donated cakes on a very wet afternoon.”
