SEND

We aim to identify children with special educational needs at an early age. These children will receive extra support from their class teacher, who will be advised by the Learning Support Advisory Service. The children’s progress will be monitored by following the guidelines laid down in the national code of practice.

Most problems can be sorted out with a little extra help but a few children who have more complicated learning problems needing long-term help may receive a statement of special educational needs. Children may receive extra help from teachers and teaching assistants in school. All work is planned and discussed under the direction of the class teacher.

The school works closely with all agencies involved in supporting pupils. Parents will be informed at all stages of proposed interventions designed to support their children’s learning and are actively encouraged to participate in a partnership with the school.

We aim for children with special educational needs to benefit from the same broad, balanced curriculum as other pupils, and to be fully integrated into the life of the school, enabling them to make the most of their potential as learners, and to contribute fully to the school in all areas. The school’s special needs co-ordinator is Mrs Sally-Ann Jones.

Parents who have any concerns about their child’s progress are invited to contact the school, and staff will be happy to arrange a meeting to discuss these.

A special needs governor is nominated to liaise with staff and parents.
