Forest School is an active and inspiring approach to learning and development which offers children opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences outside. Class one and Preschool take part in regular weekly sessions in the school’s Forest School area, led by qualified Forest School leaders: Mrs Braybrooke and Mrs Beddoes. Sessions are flexible and child led, providing learning in a natural and nurturing environment. Children build up relationships with staff and with their peers, by exploring and playing together, learning skills of co-operation, problem solving and developing their resilience by taking risks and having a go. Children develop respect and responsibility for themselves, other people and the environment during their Forest School sessions. Our children love these sessions which are healthy, active and empowering as well as fun.
When learning about their local area, we support our Key Stage 2 pupils to work towards their John Muir award. Four challenges lie at the heart of the John Muir Award: discover a wild place, explore it, conserve it and share your experiences. Within our Federation Awards Scheme, children are also encouraged to take action to protect the environment and actively improve their community surroundings.
